The Orlando Magic are waiving point guard RJ Hampton from the team and sending him to free agency for the back half of the season. He was traded to the Orlando Magic from the Denver Nuggets back in 2021 in the Aaron Gordon trade. With other guards like Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony, and Jalen Suggs on the roster there was limited space for Hampton to play on the rebuilding team. The former first-round pick will enter free agency if he clears waivers and be free to sign with another team to close out the season.

This season in 26 games and 13.9 minutes per game with the Orlando Magic, RJ Hampton averaged 5.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 43.9 percent and a three-point percentage of 34 percent. Despite the first-round potential, Hampton hasn’t quite on in the NBA and could likely use a change of scenery. He will have to go through the waiver process, but if he clears them then he will be free to sign with any team that wants him. The Magic will move forward with other players this season.
