North Carolina Tar Heels starting point guard RJ Davis has announced he is returning to the program for his senior season. After a disappointing season, there was speculation about the team’s three starters that were eligible to return to the team next season. Davis joins big man Armando Bacot with his announcement that he would return next season. Starting shooting guard Caleb Love has not made an announcement about his future at this time. With Leaky Black and Pete Nance out of eligibility and several transfers, the Tar Heels will be happy to have at least two of the three starters back.

This past season as a junior with the North Carolina Tar Heels, RJ Davis averaged 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 43.8 percent and a three-point percentage of 36.2 percent. With his return now official, he will be a favorite for several ACC awards and some national guard awards as well. The rest of the rotation outside of Davis and Bacot is a bit of an open question.

The Tar Heels have had four players enter the transfer portal since the beginning of the offseason including forwards Tyler Nickel, Dontrez Styles, Puff Johnson, and Justin McKoy. While keeping RJ Davis is massive for the program, they will need to hit the transfer portal hard in the coming months.
