Almost four years since the release of Rihanna’s Anti studio album, surely no one would have guessed that we would still be waiting for its follow-up. Highly anticipated, good news arrives today as Rihanna has shares more details about the forthcoming project.
Covering the November issue of Vogue Magazine, Ms. Fenty opened up about the sound of her new body of work.
“I like to look at it as a reggae-inspired or reggae-infused album. It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks.”
I ask why reggae feels right for this moment, and she says, “Reggae always feels right to me. It’s in my blood. It doesn’t matter how far or long removed I am from that culture, or my environment that I grew up in; it never leaves. It’s always the same high. Even though I’ve explored other genres of music, it was time to go back to something that I haven’t really homed in on completely for a body of work.”
Not entirely brand new information as previous word had spread about Rihanna’s plans for a Reggae album, it’s still great to see her shine further light on the LP.
As far as a projected release date:
“No, oh my God, they’re gonna kill you for that!” she exclaims. “And they’re going to kill me more!”
It looks like we’ll have to continue crossing our fingers in hopes that Rihanna’s 9th studio album will arrive much sooner than later. You can check out Rihanna’s full Vogue spread and see what she discusses about love, Fenty and more, here.
