To the surprise of many NBA fans around the world, Josh Smith was released and waived by the Detroit Pistons earlier in the week. Many reports had came in on where he would land, and teams that pushed hard were the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Clippers. The lucky winners were the Houston Rockets!
According to Adrian Wojnarowski:
Josh Smith has committed to signing with the Houston Rockets, league sources tell Yahoo Sports. He clears waivers at 5 PM today.

Houston seemed like a viable option for Josh Smith who is going to play with his AAU teammate Dwight Howard.
