Following a performance from Janelle Monáe, legendary composer Randy Newman took the stage at the 92nd Academy Awards. Newman delivered a stellar performance of “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away” from the Toy Story 4 soundtrack.
“Don’t you wanna see the sun come up each morning?/Don’t you wanna see the sun go down each day?/Don’t you wanna see that little girl who loves you so?/Her heart would break if you should go,” he sang.
“Son, it seems to me like you’re never gonna behave yourself/Since I’m not gonna do this every day/Come tomorrow, you’re gonna have to save yourself/Got nothing more to say, you’re not listening anyway,” he continued.
Newman is the musical mind behind the original scores of Monsters, Inc., The Natural and Ragtime. Tonight, he is nominated for his work on Toy Story 4 and Marriage Story. Watch his full performance above and check out our winners list to see how he does in that department as well.
