Rajon Rondo hasn’t had the best stint as a member of the Dallas Mavericks. When the trade happened. Some people said that they can go all all the way. I was not one of those people. But it did significantly improve them on paper. But only on paper. And NBA2K I guess.
His free throw percentage is trash. And not just trash for a guard. Trash for a professional basketball player. He has so many bricks that he can now make a housing project.
DeAndre Jordan. The person next to Dwight Howard as the two players who everybody whine about their free throw shooting. DeAndre has a better percentage this year than Rajon. And it’s not close either! Rondo. 31.7%. DeAndre. 40.5. That’s shameful.
Now. Rondo doesn’t even try to get fouled anymore. And because of that he can’t make those flashy passes that get him the usual APG of 9-10 a game. He famously can’t shoot.
Now Rondo may be average this season. But he is a free agent this summer. And there are many teams that would happily take on Rajon. Most notably. Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Rondo knows this. Which is why ESPN LA’s Baxter Holmes talked with Rondo about Kobe and his relentless recruitment.
Bryant has said his recruiting efforts aren’t deterred even though Rondo was traded from the rebuilding Celtics squad to the contending Mavericks.
“No way,” Bryant told the Boston Herald in January. “I’m not done. I’m not stopping until he signs an extension.”
How does that sit with Rondo?
“He’s one of the best that’s ever played our game,” Rondo said. “When he speaks, it speaks volumes. It’s an honor and a compliment that he’d want to play with a guy like me. But right now I’m focused on winning a championship with the Dallas Mavericks.”
Rondo was asked if he’d want to play with Bryant — and he didn’t deny it.
“I’m focused on what I have to do right now,” Rondo said. “It’s impossible to play with Kobe right now.”
It’s very, very easy to picture Rondo landing in L.A.
Now it’s weird considering Rondo bled green for most of his career. But I can really see Rajon Rondo in a Lakers jersey! Now even though Kobe and Rondo might like each other. A lot. That may not be the best thing. They may be boys, but that does not mean that they’ll have chemistry on the court.
