R, Kelly faces new charges in a federal indictment in New York.
The disgraced R&B singer continues to battle neverending legal issues. R. Kelly, legal name Robert Kelly faces charges of sexual violence, racketeering, and bribery. According to CNN, Kelly now faces five acts of racketeering and four more counts of violating the Mann Act for allegedly transporting girls and women from state to state for illegal sexual activity.
These new charges were added to an indictment in US District Court in New York. CNN reports the new federal charges are to replace the federal charges from the US District Court in New York filed during the summer of 2019. Doug Anton, legal counsel for Kelly issued the following statement regarding the new charges reports CNN.
“Or… perhaps… these alleged victims are not victims at all, but only women who have been told and instructed, even peer pressured if you will, years later, that the claimed relationship they freely and voluntarily engaged in, should now, in the #metoo era, be classified as ‘bad’ or ‘abusive,’ and they are continually seeking to add facts, even if not truthful, to their story, to make the alleged events as salacious as humanly possible.”
No arraignment date has been set for the new charges against Kelly. Back in February 2020, more new charges were added to Kelly’s federal case in his hometown of Chicago. In total, R. Kelly now faces over 20 criminal charges involving abuse against 11 girls and women over more than two decades.
