If you were on social media over the last week, you most definitely saw Barack Obama surprise his Michelle Obama in Washington, D.C. during her book talk at Capital One Arena. Not long after, news broke that Michelle Obama’s new book, Becoming, sold nearly 800,000 copies on its first day. To put into perspective, Michelle Obama moved more copies of her book in one day than J. Cole sold albums in his first week. While that’s definitely no shade to Cole, it’s simply a testament to how well the Obamas are doing post-presidency. Today, we got another tidbit of greatness related to the Obama family.
During an interview with Billboard, the former first lady told a reporter that Questlove had recently curated a 300 song playlist that accompanies her book. The playlist brings together some of Michelle Obama’s lifetime favorites such as Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Ella Fitzgerald, Janelle Monáe and more. During the interview, Michelle Obama said, “I connect many of my memories with the songs and melodies I was listening to at the time.” She also said, “That’s why I’m so thankful to Questlove for curating these playlists and infusing them with his signature style.” She ended by saying, “Life’s a little better when we live it to Questlove’s beat.”
Fans of Mrs. Obama can find the full playlist on Spotify and Pandora. In addition, Michelle Obama will make an appearance on Questlove’s Questlove Supreme podcast on Pandora.
