The New York Knicks brought in Phil Jackson as team president last month with the hopes of being able to sway Carmelo Anthony into staying with The Knicks. Phil and Carmelo were both spotted at a Tribeca Steakhouse in New York, according to an eyetwitness the two met for two hours on Tuesday night. The eyewitness claims they were in deep conversation. The discussion clearly had to be about Anthony’s decision to become a free agent or not come July 1st, The triangle offense, and the building plan for the future.
Last week Jackson told reporters he would like Anthony to take a pay cut to help the team’s salary cap flexibility. With the summer of 2015 set to have a surplus of stars for Phil to go after and big contracts coming off The Knicks books, Phil could be setting his sights on something big if Anthony does in fact re-sign with the team. Jackson’s main priorities of course would be to lure Anthony back to The Knicks and to find a head coach. Since Jackson took over Steve Kerr has been the favorite to land the head coaching gig, and according to reports Kerr loves Carmelo Anthony. Jackson’s first plan is clearly to keep in close contact with Anthony, and he’s clearly doing that. Now the big question is will he hop on board with the thirteen time champion or jump ship this summer.
