We finally get our first-look at Alfred Pennyworth. For those who don’t know, Pennyworth is Batman’s butler and confidant. But instead of showing Alfred’s time with the Caped Crusader, the TV show focuses on his origins.
Medici’s Jack Bannon stars as Alfred, a former SAS British Soldier trying to set up a security company in England in the 1960’s. He eventually encounters Thomas Wayne (Bruce Wayne’s father) and the two team-up and go into business.
The show is executive produced by the creators of Gotham, Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, and they definitely have experience dealing with the Dark Knight universe through their time.
Pennyworth seems to have his bravado and swagger to him, in a very James Bond-esque mannor, he kicks ass outside a nightclub and gets a girls number. While the show is set to show the journey and evolution of Alfred, there may be hints at a bigger Batman universe in the making. With Thomas Wayne already involved, we may see more characters from the Batman arsenal be incorporated.
The TV show debuts July 29th, 2019 on DC streaming service.
