Y’all ready to face off again? Because it Paramount Pictures definitely is. According to Deadline, the studio is reportedly eyeing a reboot of the 90s action classic, Face/Off.
Nicholas Cage and John Travolta starred in the 1997 original film as a homicidal maniac and the FBI agent charged with hunting the criminal down, respectively. In the film, Travolta’s agent undergoes surgery to take the face of Cage’s criminal so he can go undercover in prison. However, Cage wakes up and demands the surgeons give him Travolta’s face. From there, the criminal taunts the agent and two go toe to toe across multiple action set-pieces.
Oren Uziel is being tapped to write the reboot’s script. Neal Moritz and David Permut are both attached to produce the film. The Face/Off reboot is just Paramount’s latest dip into the nostalgia well. Earlier this summer it was reported that the studio is also eyeing a reboot of Paranormal Activity. Paramount also picked up the rights to Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s upcoming adaptation of Killers of the Flower Moon.
Paramount’s Face/Off reboot has yet to receive a release date.
