The Green Bay Packers have reportedly traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. Under the agreement, the Packers are expected to receive a first, second and sixth-round pick from the Jets in the upcoming NFL Draft. Additionally, the Packers will receive a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first-round pick if Rodgers plays 65% of his offensive snaps in New York. In return, the Jets will receive first and fifth-round picks in this year’s draft along with their new starting quarterback, Rodgers.
“The two sides talked for weeks before talks broke down, then discussions heated up late last week. Finally, Jets GM Joe Douglas and Packers GM Brian Gutekunst were able to bridge their differences and come to an agreement,” ESPN’s Adam Wojnarowski tweeted.
“This marks the second time in 14 years that the Packers have traded a legendary quarterback to the Jets. In 2009, the Packers sent Brett Favre to the New York Jets in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick.
With his new team, Rodgers is expected to wear a new number. During his time with the Packers, he wore number 12. While Joe Namath gave Rodgers’ his blessing to wear the number he once wore for the Jets, he will wear the number he once wore in college, 8.
