Nicolas Cage is reportedly set to play the role of John Madden in an upcoming film. According to multiple reports, the film will not be a traditional biopic. Rather, the film will reportedly be about the “origin story of Madden NFL, one of the biggest video game franchises of all time.”
Cage will be joined by an all-star team helmed by director David O. Russell. The Golden Globe Award winner is best known for leading films such as American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook. In the world of sports film, he’s best know for directing the The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale.
Cage has been at the center of a few moves in Hollywood this summer, including Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions picking up the rights to The Surfer in North America. Starring Cage, the film tells the story of “a father who returns with his son to his beachside hometown in Australia after building a life for himself in the U.S.” However, moving back home is not as simple as it may seem at the surface. A local gang of surfers claiming ownership of his hometown beach at Luna Bay and chaos erupts when Cage confronts the group. At the moment, the film has a 2025 release date.
