Nico Ali Walsh, the grandson of Muhammad Ali, has scored the first win of his pro boxing career. Walsh stopped Jordan Weeks in the first round with less than 90 seconds left.
Walsh may not have the amateur experience, size, speed or natural ability that his grandfather did. In fact, it’s unfair to compare Laila Ali, Nico Ali Walsh or any other relative to Muhammad Ali because he was the first of his kind. With that said, Walsh does have three things that make a professional fighter special. In his pro debut, Walsh showcased a level of bounce and tenacity that is needed to succeed. Adding on, Walsh has a support system that his grandfather did not have at this point in his career. He is currently trained by one of the best trainers in the world, SugarHill Steward, and promoted by the same man that promoted 27 of Ali’s fights, Bob Arum. Not to mention, he has an aunt in Laila Ali who has been there and done that in the sport of boxing.
Steward nor Arum indicated who Walsh would fight next, but he is eager for his next opportunity to get back in the ring.
And the pro career for the grandson of The Greatest is officially up and running ?@NicoAliX74 (1-0, 1 KO) earns the first round stoppage!#FrancoMoloney3 | ESPN pic.twitter.com/kFOqPDZrSY
