Top Remaining Free Agents
The majority of free agents have found a home this offseason. Often times the so called winners of free agency tend to find themselves bargains late in the process. The biggest thing for fans to remember is the compensatory picks still come in to play. A team who is looking to cash in on their comp picks will look to add a salary cap casualty player rather than players on an expiring contract. Players who were released by their former team do not account during the comp pick formula. The Ravens and Packers are already in line for 4 compensatory picks based off their free agent departures. Here is the list of available free agents.
1. Michael Crabtree – San Francisco 49ers (WR)
At this point Crabtree is being incredibly undervalued. After suffering an Achilles injury in 2013, it is safe to say he needed a year just to get back up to speed. Linebacker Terrell Suggs suffered a similar injury and has returned to strength, just a year later everyone had expected. My best guess is Crabtree land on a contender and provides a much needed possession receiver on key third downs. San Diego is a team that first comes to mind. He could provide a nice weapon opposite of Keenan Allen, while also staying on the west coast.
2. Charles Clay – Miami Dolphins (TE)
Clay is one of the most underrated tight ends in the game today. The 5th year pro from Tulsa caught 58 passes in 2014. Miami has placed the transition tag on Clay giving the team the right to match any offer. With the recent signing of Jordan Cameron the Dolphins are unlikely to do so. AFC East rival Buffalo Bills are a team known to be extremely interested in his services.
3. Stefen Wisniewski – Oakland Raiders (C)
Wisniewski has been the consummate pro since joining the league in 2011. The center from Penn State is a great starter who is being overlooked. Wisniewski has been casted aside by his former team, the Oakland Raiders after the Rodney Hudson capture. One must wonder why the team over paid for Hudson when a Wisniewski retention was not out of the realm of possibility. Nevertheless the Seahawks could be a team in need for a center after trading away Max Unger to new Orleans.
4. Rolando McClain – Dallas Cowboys (MLB)
The Dallas Cowboys struck lightning in a bottle after trading for the troubled linebacker last offseason. After a few arrests and a brief retirement, McClain played fairly well for being out of the league the season prior. Teams have been wary of giving the troubled linebacker a big pay day after only one strong season. McClain may have to take a one year deal to prove he is back for good.
