Netflix has canceled the Idris Elba led series, Turn Up Charlie. Throughout the series, Elba played the role of Charlie, a struggling DJ who finds a second life after signing on to be the babysitter for the daughter of a successful pop star named Sara. By working his way into the studio with Sara, Charlie is able to reach the unique level of musical success that he’d been searching for.
“What started off as a DJ show, and a show about a DJ trying to climb up the ladder, became this story about parenting, which came from the anecdotes. We merged it together and it started to write itself, once we added the elements that we did,” Elba said.
All eight episodes of the one season series are now available on Netflix. Moving forward, Elba is set to star in Concrete Cowboys and The Suicide Squad.
