Once the Golden State Warriors started to win all day everyday, somebody noticed that Luke Walton was not officially getting the W’s. Because he is officially the interim head coach, he doesn’t get credit according to NBA Policy.
Steve Kerr said a few days ago that he was not a fan of this policy. And the Warriors were going to pursue credit for Walton. But the NBA have dropped the hammer and will not give Walton credit. But. He’ll get the Coach of the Month. So. That’s a plus.
… the head coach of record is credited with team wins and losses. Steve Kerr remains the head coach of record for the Golden State Warriors and is credited with those results. Additionally, any team head coach, interim head coach or acting head coach is eligible to be recognized with league coaching awards. Therefore, Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton is eligible for NBA Coach of the Month.
Oh well that’s nice. And I guess it doesn’t really matter, if Walton goes for a head coaching gig the employer will know that he filled in when the historic Golden State run came around. It’s not like they’re going to look at the 0-0 and go “We’ll you’re inexperienced”.
