NY Daily News reports Sweet Chick, a chicken and waffle eatery co-owned by Nas, offers free meals to federal employees impacted by the government shutdown.
As the longest government shutdown in United States history drags on, 800,000 citizens are faced to live life without a paycheck. With many going without food, healthcare and other necessities, businesses have stepped up help in times of need.
Queens native Nas, got the idea on Martin Luther King Day to treat the furloughed employees to free meals. All four Sweet Chick locations in New York City plus the franchise in Hollywood will provide free meals to those presenting their government employee ID.
John Seymour, who co-owns Sweet Chick with Nas recognizes the importance of giving back.
“There are a lot of hard working people out there not getting a paycheck. We wanted to take care of the people who take care of us.” says Seymour.
NY Daily News reports on average, 40 furloughed employees receive meals at Sweet Chick locations since MLK day.
