2018 was full of big albums from big names. The Carters dropped Everything Is Love by surprise, Drake made noise with Scorpion and Travis Scott took the next step in his career with Astroworld. While most of the major releases lived up to the hype, a few albums fell prey to major criticism. One album to fit that description was Nasir. Produced by Kanye West, the album faced much criticism due to delays and the bad press surrounding Mr. West. Despite the setbacks, Nas managed to push the album forward with an incredible documentary. Today, he’s back with the latest step in his album roll out.
To kick off the new year, Nas has released the video for his song, “Cops Shot The Kid”. Keeping with the message of the song, the new video shows a number of jarring instances of police brutality involving young black people. In addition to the jarring video, the song also features a heavy Slick Rick sample. As you would expect, the legendary rapper makes a brief appearance in the video.
The release of the new Nas video comes on the heel of the latest Governors Ball announcement. The New York mogul is set to headline the festival on June 2nd in his home state.
