Each and every summer, the title of “Song of the Summer” is bestowed upon a song that encapsulates the warm weather, BBQs, beach days and family gatherings that take place from late May through early September. This year, there are a number of frontrunners like Byron Messia’s breakout hit, “Talibans” and Sexy Red’s raunchy, yet playful “Pound Town.” With that said, there are always a few dark horses that emerge and enter the race as well. While it’s still extremely early and a bit under the radar, the smooth, yet stylish track, “Genesis,” from Mnelia, Bella, Joyce Wrice and Miraa May could be that sleeper pick. Going one after another, each artist adds to what could be described as a vocalist’s posse cut or cypher over the Albin Tengblad and Gustav Landell-produced track.
“You’ve been so cold for way too long/Oh, I gotta get me back, get me back, yeah/You had solid gold ’til you lost control/It’s time to get me back, get me back, yeah,” Mnelia sings on the bounce back anthem.
“To the genesis of my love/Must’ve got too caught up in it/You caused the exodus of my trust/When I had it all in the beginning/It should’ve never took a revelation/For me to exhaust my patience/That’s why I need mine.”
The “Genesis” remix adds to what has been a great year for Mnelia as she celebrates the success of Closure Tapes. Check out the track below.
