An uptick in recorded COVID-19 cases has led a number of entertainment entities to rethink their upcoming performance schedules. On Broadway, the producers of the Michael Jackson musical, MJ, have announced that all performances will be cancelled until December 27.
“As a result of multiple positive COVID test results within the company, and out of an abundance of caution, MJ is canceling all performances through December 26th. Previews will resume Monday, December 27,” a statement from the show’s producers reads.
MJ is not the only musical to be taken off Broadway this month. Deadline reports that Moulin Rouge! and Hamilton have cancelled their shows for December 17. Adding on, Jagged Little Pill, Mrs. Doubtfire and Tina – The Tina Turner Musical have cancelled their performances for the entire week.
If breakthrough COVID-19 cases continue to pile up in the state of New York and around the country, more cancellations could come in the following weeks.
