Detroit Tigers’ first baseman Miguel Cabrera, who won the triple crown in 2012, has hit his 400th career home run this afternoon in St. Louis. He hit it to dead center field in the first inning off of Cardinals’ starter Tyler Lyons. He is the eighth-youngest player to reach this milestone. That was Cabrera’s 10th home run on the 2015 campaign. He is having a typical season as the right hander is currently hitting .333 and has driven in 29 runs.
Cabrera began his career as a 20 year old kid in 2003 with the Florida Marlins World Series championship team and actually hit a walk off home run in his major league debut. He started off as an outfielder/third baseman as a youngster, but as he got older and larger, he stuck with playing first base and being the designated hitter for the Detroit Tigers.
The 32 year old is a nine time All-Star, a two time American League Most Valuable Player, a two time batting champion, and a five time Silver Slugger Award winner. He’s a career .320 hitter as well, and is arguably the best pure hitter of this decade, hitting with power to all fields while hitting for a high average.
The scariest part is that he’s still in the prime of his career and is showing zero signs of slowing down.
