The Dallas Mavericks made some roster changes on Thursday, addressing a very weak point guard position on its roster. The team waived forward Quincy Acy, then later signed summer league player Jonathan Gibson, Shams Charania of The Vertical reported:

Acy’s fully recovered from bone bruise injury and will have opportunity to sign once he clears waivers. Dallas needed PG depth now.

Quincy Acy will join a respectable group of players currently without a home, a group consisting of Mario Chalmers, Tony Wroten, Donatas Motiejunas, Tyler Hansbrough and Carl Landry. Acy signed a free-agent contract with the Mavericks over the summer.
Acy wound up playing in only six contests with Dallas, but is a valuable frontcourt piece for general managers around the league. Expect him to ink with a team, whether in the NBA or overseas, in the coming weeks.
For Jonathan Gibson, a player Dallas has kept tabs on throughout 2016, this opportunity will be his second stint within the franchise. He played with Dallas during the Las Vegas Summer League, instantly impressing team officials and coaches with a 30-point outing in his debut. He also appeared in seven preseason games before being subsequently waived.
The Mavericks are in dire need of another point guard, with Deron Williams and J.J. Barea both being sidelined due to calf injuries, and Devin Harris dealing with a toe injury. The team’s only current point guard is Seth Curry, who some classify as being more of a shooting guard.
