This month, Ethiopian-born, South Minneapolis-raised artist Mati has been pretty busy. Not only has he been tirelessly promoting his recent “Life Notes” video, but he also recently earned a degree from the University of Minnesota.
“[I’m a] young, educated, Black artist. [I earned a] bachelor’s in communications and African-American studies. Congrats and happy Mother’s Day to my Momma,” he tweeted.
Riding the high of earning a college degree, he’s returned with a new video for his track, “For The Soul.” Produced by André Mariette, “For The Soul” is a light-hearted tune with a bounce that matches Mati’s unique vocal inflections. Drawing inspiration from his college experiences, he shares a few pieces of advice for those who are trying to make it through the fire.
“’For The Soul’ is a record that delves into relationships, self-reflection, and the
personal pursuit of success. We all have problems we’re dealing with and in the end, all
that matters are the people in your corner when you’re at your worst,” he said about his latest release.
“For The Soul” sets the stage for his next project. Until it arrives, check out the Braden Lee-directed visuals for the project’s latest single.
