For over 20 years now, Marvel and Capcom characters have been slugging it out. While as fighting games they have been among the most beloved and acclaimed, the past plots were rather slim. But the newest installment Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite promises a greater focus on story.
As shown in the new trailer, robo baddies Ultron and Sigma have (literally) combined forces to destroy all organic life once and for all. Heroes from both sides will need to settle any squabbles they might have with one another to stop them.
Much like in the movies, the Infinity Stones have come back into prominence. They factor into the story of course, but also in the gameplay where they grant unique powers and abilities. See it in action here:
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe should be pleased with the selections which so far include Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, and Captain Marvel making her debut to the series. On the Capcom side there’s Ryu and Chun Li from Street Fighter, Chris Redfield from Resident Evil, Strider Hiryu, Morrigan from Darkstalkers, and Mega Man X, who’ll likely be a strong part of the plot as Sigma’s perennial foe.
There are surely loads more being kept under wraps for now. Personally I’m hoping to see characters such as Black Panther, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones join in, as well as older characters return like Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, and of course the X-Men. Wolverine has been in all of the other games so far, it would be a huge disappointment to break that now.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be here September 19 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
