Marvel Entertainment has opted to push back production for their upcoming Blade series. Instead of starting this summer, Mahershala Ali and company will start working in July 2022. The major reason for the delay is Marvel’s search for a director.
Early reports suggest that Shaka King, Regina King, Ryan Coogler and Barry Jenkins have been thrown out, but nothing has stuck. A source close to the film told the Hollywood Reporter that the process was “phenomenally early.”
In the meantime, Marvel does have a bit of brighter news. Just last month, Marvel unveiled the first trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. More recently, the company announced the titles for the Captain Marvel and Black Panther sequels. Rounding out the run of good news, Loki will arrive on Disney+ two days earlier than originally planned.
While Marvel works out its plans for the Blade series, it will continue to roll out its next film, Black Widow. The Scarlett Johansson picture will arrive in theatures this July.
