Mariah Carey shared her memoir, The Meaning Of Mariah Carey, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic on September 29, 2020. Within the memoir, Carey shared a few secrets, including details regarding a 90s grunge album. While recording her chart-topping 1995 album, Daydream, the pop star and her band used their free time to record an alt-pop, grunge fusion album. Ultimately, Carey’s former roommate Clarissa Dane re-recorded the vocals for an album from her band, Chick. Meanwhile, Carey’s vocals were seemingly lost and her involvement in the album was unknown until 2020.
Following the release of The Meaning Of Mariah Carey, she embarked on a journey to recover the vocals.
“I can tell you that I’m on a quest to unearth the version of this album with my lead vocals and will not stop until we find it,” she tweeted.
Earlier this month, Mariah Carey sat down for an interview with Rolling Stone and provided an update regarding the album. The global star revealed that the album will be released with her vocals and she may have additional surprises in the works with “another artist.”
“I think this unearthed version will become, yes, something we should hear,” she said.
“I’m working on a version of something where there’ll be another artist working on this with me as well.”
Unfortunately, there is no release date or title for the album just yet. Stay tuned for more developments regarding this special project.
