Margot Robbie delivered a bit of a blow to moviegoers interested in seeing a second Barbie film led by Greta Gerwig. During a recent interview, the actress was asked about the possibility of starring in a sequel and she didn’t seem to believe that a second film would be in the works anytime soon.
“I think we put everything into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something,” Robbie told the media outlet.
“Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next.”
While Robbie doesn’t believe a second film will be in the works, she is proud of what she and Gerwig were able to accomplish. Starring Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell, the film earned an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and nearly $1.5 billion at the box office. Having contributed to one of the year’s biggest film, Robbie shared with the Associated Press what she learned from its success.
“I’d say the biggest takeaway for me is that original films can still hit huge at the box office,” she told the media outlet.
“It doesn’t have to be a sequel or a prequel or a remake. It can be totally original. It can still be big [if its] given the big budget to do that.”
