He did not make any bones about himself. He didn’t want to be another LaMarcus Aldridge, making other franchises trade half their teams just so they can have dinner with him. Instead Marc Gasol went back home to Spain, chilled and thought about his future.
And it seems that it didn’t take much thinking, he wasn’t rumoured with any teams, it was clear that he wanted to stay with the Grizz, and according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, he’s done exactly that.
The deal includes an early-termination option after the fourth year in 2018-19, league sources said.
Gasol met with Grizzlies owner Robert Pera in Spain last Wednesday, and progressed toward a final agreement over the next several days, sources said.
Gasol, 30, never seriously considered leaving the Grizzlies. He attended high school in Memphis while his older brother, Pau, played for the Grizzlies, and has spent all seven seasons of his NBA career with Memphis.
How simple was that? Met with the owner in Spain, progressed towards an agreement and boom, Gasol is good for the next 4-5 years.
No teams left licking their wounds about the loyalty. LaMarcus I’m talking to you.
