John David Washington and Zendaya take center stage in the latest trailer for Malcolm & Marie. Washington and Zendaya play a couple going through the ups and downs of discussing their past relationships.
“When filmmaker Malcolm and his girlfriend Marie, return home from a movie premiere and await his film’s critical response, the evening takes a turn as revelations about their relationship surface, testing the couple’s love,” Netflix writes.
Malcolm & Marie was the brainchild of Euphoria’s Sam Levinson. During the early stages of the pandemic, Levinson recruited Washington and Zendaya for the project. Testing daily and following COVID-19 protocols, the cast and crew were able to put together a unique film.
“This started as, how can we get back to work,” Levinson said.
“I talked to HBO and said, ‘maybe we can do a Covid episode of Euphoria,’ and they said, ‘Sam, just go home, and be safe.’ That made perfect sense, but I had been talking to Z a lot when we were gearing up to do this pretty intense season, and it grew from there.”
