Free agent guard Malcolm Delaney has agreed to a deal with the Guangdong Southern Tigers in China, according to Eurohoops. The reported deal is a one-year agreement worth $2 million.
Delaney spent his past two NBA seasons playing with the Atlanta Hawks, appearing in 127 total games with the team. He held per-game averages of 6.3 points and three assists during the 2017-‘18 campaign, shooting 38 percent from the floor and 37 percent from 3-point range.
Delaney went undrafted in 2011 after spending four seasons at Virginia Tech. He then spent several seasons overseas before signing with Atlanta in July of 2016, and now looks forward to beginning a new challenge or playing in the Chinese Basketball Association.
“I’m about to go back to having fun playing the game I love and getting paid well to do it,” Delaney wrote on social media. “NBA is a lifestyle but I had no fun playing the last two years so this new challenge will get back where I need to be. I’m the best when I’m hungry and appreciated.”
The Guangdong Southern Tigers finished third in the CBA last season and are coached by Lithuania native Jonas Kazlauskas. Several NBA players have been under contract with the team in recent years, including Carlos Boozer, Aaron Brooks and Donald Sloan.
