Marvel’s going international. As details for their post-Endgame plans remain heavily guarded, Marvel has been slowly dropping details about the cast for The Eternals. The film will likely be the studios’ second ‘Phase Four’ outing after Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Recently, both Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani have been announced to be part of the film. Then, on Wednesday, The Wrap reported that famed South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok would also be joining the film. It’s unknown who any of the actors will be playing. Ma is already a massive star in South Korea, starring in films such as Norigae, The Outlaws, and Derailed. His role in 2016’s Train to Busan is definitely his most prominent and the one that gained him international fame.
In the comics, The Eternals are a race of ancient humans with special abilities. Their power comes from the Celestials, who have already had their fingerprints all over the MCU so far, most notably in the Guardians films. Knowhere is the severed head of a Celestial and Ego, Peter Quill’s father is actually a Celestial himself. Fans speculate that the film will focus on Jolie as an Eternal named Sersi. Chloe Zhao is attached to direct the script being written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.
The Eternals has yet to receive an official release date.
