In a 2018 NBA Draft Class stacked with top-heavy talent, Slovenian guard Luka Doncic stands out from the pack for a few reasons. Not only has he already proven to be a dynamic threat in one of the best leagues in the world, but his draft position in context to his peers remains in flux.
Considered by many to be the most NBA-ready and talented player in this year’s draft, Doncic also has more than his fair share of skeptics. However, in a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, it’s clear the 6-foot-8 playmaking Doncic believes he belongs right at the top of his class.
“Pick one to five, it will be amazing to be selected there, especially for a European guy,” Doncic told Yahoo Sports. “I need to show it on the court, because I need to prove it. I can see who made a mistake not drafting me. After my rookie season, I will see who made a mistake. I’m motivated to enter the draft. I’m excited to play in the NBA and play against these stars.
Having the advantage of playing in a highly-competitive professional league as opposed to the NCAA like most of his fellow prospects, Luka Doncic should be able to come in and make an immediate impact from different positions. His lanky frame allows him to play three different positions, but still, his draft stock has fallen slightly in recent weeks.
Some may question his burst and athleticism but Doncic’ diverse skill set and polished offensive repertoire make him the most intriguing option in this class and he should be one of the first names off the board when the 2018 NBA Draft commences on June 21 at 7 PM.
