It is safe to say that many boxing aficionados in Sin City were not happy on Saturday night. At the historic MGM Grand Garden Arena, all three judges scored an undisputed lightweight title fight in favor of reigning champion Devin Haney. As the scorecards were read aloud, many fans could be heard booing loudly and cheering on the challenger, Vasyl Lomachenko. After the fight, lightweight contender Shakur Stevenson entered the ring and said that he felt Lomachenko won the bout. Not to mention, fellow lightweight contender Jamaine Ortiz called the decision a “robbery.” However, Lomachenko opted not to discuss the judges’ decision after the fight.
“I don’t want to talk about this. All people see what happened today. I can’t talk about this right now, it’s just not a comfortable moment for me,” Lomachenko told ESPN’s Mark Ortega when asked if he felt he won the fight.
During the post-fight press conference, Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Klimas, did not bite his tongue when discussing the matter. In his words, it was “the biggest robbery” and he plans to appeal the decision.
“I’m going to say it just like it is,” Klimas told reporters.
“This is the biggest robbery in the middle of the day. For the other team, Christmas came in the summer. We’re not going to let it go. I guarantee that we are going to protest [the decision]. I guarantee we are going to appeal the decision because someone needs to end this injustice. Somebody has to put boxing in the place that it needs to be.”
?? Vasyl Lomachenko is adamant that he deserved to win his fight vs Devin Haney: "I was sure I won this fight… I controlled every round. For me it's a big, big question – what happened in the result today?"
