Time Magazine has named Lizzo as its entertainer of the year. During her run, she has seen the reemergence of her singles, “Truth Hurts” and “Boys”. She has also experienced success with her debut album, Cuz I Love You. The 2019 project has featured Gucci Mane, Missy Elliott and more. It has already won a Soul Train Music Award and is nominated for eight awards at next year’s Grammy Awards.
Much of her rise has been led by her outgoing nature and positive personality. She said, “I’ve been doing positive music for a long-ass time.”
She told Time, “Then the culture changed. There were a lot of things that weren’t popular but existed, like body positivity, which at first was a form of protest for fat bodies and black women and has now become a trendy, commercialized thing. Now I’ve seen it reach the mainstream. Suddenly I’m mainstream!”
Alongside the Houston based artist, Time Magazine has named Greta Thunberg as its person of the year. The climate crisis activist won the honor over a finalist group that included Donald Trump, Nancy Pelosi, protesters in Hong Kong and the whistle blower that lead to the ongoing impeachment hearings.
