Call it boxing! Call it a train wreck! Call it whatever you’d like! Regardless of what you want to call, tonight’s boxing match featuring Tyron Woodley and Jake Paull will surely be entertaining. Paul enters the ring with a pristine, undefeated record that includes victories over former NBA stars and former MMA fighters. On the other side of the ring, Tyron Woodley stands prepared, but lacks any professional boxing experience. Still, he does have more than two dozen MMA fights under his belts and seven knockout wins. Most importantly, he knows what it’s like to perform on the highest level and on the world’s biggest stages. As a result, he is by far Paul’s most threatening opponent. Will it be enough?
Round One
Ryan’s Scorecard: Paul leads Woodley (10-9
Analysis: From the opening bell, Woodley came out in a very low stance. It appears that he’s looking to get to the body in the way that he would in an MMA fight. As the round went on, the two men got settled things opened up, Jake Paul tried to lead with right hands before going to the body. Woodley was able to back out of distance most times, but he did get caught a few times. However, it didn’t appear to phase him. Overall, Paul was the more aggressive fighter while Woodley remained stuck in neutral much like he was in his last few MMA fights.
Paul wins rd 1 with ease. #boxing #PaulWoodley

Round Two
Ryan’s Scorecard: Paul leads Woodley (20-18)
Analysis: Paul came out aggressive and throwing his left hand a bit. Paul is certainly the taller fighter, but they both have a ’74 reach. If Woodley is going to get things done, he needs to get on track offensively by jabbing. On the other hand, Paul appears to be unsure what to do with a man who is not aggressive. Both Nate Robinson and Ben Askren were overly aggressive, but Woodley is the complete opposite through two rounds. As a result, I’m not entirely sure Paul knows what to do.
Combination by Paul lands to the body and head. Woodley is fine but it got his attention. Another round down and another round to Paul. 10-9 Paul (20-18 Paul)

Round Three
Ryan’s Scorecard: Paul leads Woodley (30-27)
Analysis: Right hand, right hand and more right hands. This has been Paul’s best round to date so far. He is pushing the action and consistently landing the right hand. Woodley doesn’t appear to be hurt, but he just looks lost. He’s being overly cautious. If he’s going to make a comeback, he needs to start at the opening bell of the fourth round.
Rd 3: Paul 10-9. Not a hard fight to score at all. #boxing #PaulWoodley

Rd 3: Woodley tires to be more active. Not successful. Paul out-boxing Woodley. 30-27 Paul. Not surprisingly, Woodley not a very orthodox boxer. #boxing #paulvswoodley

Round Four
Ryan’s Scorecard: Paul leads Woodley (39-37)
Analysis: Woodley was a bit more aggressive in the opening moments of the round. He’s starting to get on the inside where he needs to be and tying him up. Knowing that is what he hopes to do, Paul is starting to circle to his left and right as if he’s trying to catch his breath. Towards the end of the round, Woodley started to sense Paul was getting fatigued and pressed the action. At times, it appeared that Paul was using the ropes to keep himself up and survive the round. Woodley will need to keep this up in rounds five and six to close the gap.
Woodley is back in this thing!

Woodley now in a groove. Paul may be fading. Emphasis on may. #PaulWoodley

Round Five
Ryan’s Scorecard: Paul leads Woodley (49-46)
Analysis: This could be the round that swings the fight. Woodley found success when threw his jab, but he just didn’t throw it enough. As a result, it looks like Paul started to find his groove again and use his right hand to control the distance. With this second wind, it looks like Paul is back in this thing.
Paul lands a hard left hook and Woodley talks trash to him. Hard jab from Paul. They exchange and both land. Woodley charges in but misses. Right hand by Paul closes the round. 10-9 Paul (49-46 Paul)
— Andreas Hale (@AndreasHale) August 30, 2021
Rd 5: Paul 10-9, but a competitive round. Turning into a good fight. 4-1 Paul. #boxing #PaulWoodley

Round Six
Ryan’s Scorecard: Paul leads Woodley (59-55)
I got it 58-56 Paul. #PaulWoodley
— Bloody Elbow (@BloodyElbow) August 30, 2021
Rd 6: Paul 10-9. Woodley could win if he would throw but he isn't. Paul did enough to win that round. Seems like he has a second wind. 5-1 Paul. #boxing #PaulWoodley

Round Seven
Ryan’s Scorecard: Paul leads Woodley (68-65)
Analysis: Woodley heard his trainer and came out moving faster than he has in the last few rounds. As a result, he was able to keep Paul backing up throughout the round. Again, Paul is beginning to look tired. The former UFC champion is pushing the pace and for that reason, I’ll give him this round. Still, it could go either way.
Overhand right by Paul lands flush. Woodley takes it with ease. Close round that could go either way. 10-9 Paul (69-64 Paul)
— Andreas Hale (@AndreasHale) August 30, 2021
Rd7: Close round. No one really took control. Woodley not aggressive enough. 10-9, 68-65 Paul. #boxing #paulvswoodley #paulwoodley

Round Eight
Ryan’s Scorecard: Paul def. Woodley (77-75)
Analysis: That jab, man! That jab, man! Woodley, just throw the jab. He’s tired. He’s very tired. This fight has been frustrating. the former UFC champion did come to fight. He held his own. However, he was not active enough in enough spots to win it. The last two rounds could have gone either way, but he gave away the first three rounds. As a result, I’ll give it to Paul. Tommy Fury, next?
Woodley walks into a jab and a right hand. Short left by Woodley lands. Woodley charges but smothers himself. Pops Paul with a left hand. Hard right hand by Woodley in the closing seconds. Game over. 10-9 Woodley (78-75 Paul)
— Andreas Hale (@AndreasHale) August 30, 2021
We go the scorecards in #PaulWoodley: 77-75 Paul, 77-75 Woodley, 78-74 for the winner by split decision Jake Paul! #boxing
