One of the many gems lost in the uncertain music climate that persisted through the COVID-19 pandemic was Lil Yachty’s Lil’ Boat III. Led by “Split/Whole Time” and a collaboration with Drake, the project featured guest appearances from A$AP Rocky, Young Thug, Lil’ Durk, Lil’ Keed DaBaby, Tyler The Creator and Future. Not to mention, it may have also included the verse of the year from Tierra Whack. He even came back months later with a bonus edition that featured Lil’ Baby and Vince Staples. In 2021, the Atlanta native is looking to set the tone yet again.
Lil’ Yachty has returned with a new mixtape called Michigan Boat Boy. Over the years, the Georgia representative has connected with Michigan artists like Tee Grizzley and Big Sean. Now, he’s paying true homage with this release.
“I found a love for Michigan, you know what I’m saying? The [state] just [has] a vibe that’s unmatched and I established this relationship [with artists from the state]. I was a fan of all these guys all throughout Michigan, not just Detroit,” he said in the project’s trailer.
“[I’m trying to] put them on a pedestal [and] Give them the platform they may not have had before. You know, it’s nothing but love.”
