In the span of a week, two fathers have made it know to the world where they do not want their sons to play. First it was Anthony Davis Sr. saying he does not want his son to play in Boston because of how they treated the hobbled Isaiah Thomas. That largely came out of nowhere.
Now, LaVar Ball, the unspoken father of Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball, says he does not want his son to play in New Orleans. This, however, does not really come out of nowhere. LaVar famously proclaimed that his son would only play for the Lakers.
LaVar is not just spewing random nonsense. His son may very well be traded, possibly sooner than later. The trade discussions between the Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans have begun to heat up, with speculation that Lonzo Ball will part of the deal. But if LaVar has anything to say about it, Lonzo would not be headed to the bayou.
LaVar Ball tells ESPN that if Lonzo Ball is traded, he wants his son to go to Phoenix: “We want to be in LA. But if he’s traded, I don’t want Lonzo in New Orleans. Phoenix is the best fit for him. And I am going to speak it into existence.”

The reason New Orleans is unacceptable to LaVar is because the team already has a point guard in Jrue Holiday. And despite looking to trade away Davis, which is essentially any hope of competing, the Pelicans have no intention of trading Holiday.
Speaking it into existence has worked for LaVar Ball, at least so far. And for what it is worth, the Phoenix Suns have been searching for a point guard since the beginning of the season. Lonzo Ball would certainly fit the timeline the Suns have created with young star Devin Booker and number one pick DeAndre Ayton. With the trade deadline just a few days away, this will all end up concluding sooner than later.
