Details have emerged regarding Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving receiving a facial injury as the result of an inadvertent elbow during a recent pickup game. The Athletic’s Shams Charania is now reporting that Irving sustained a fracture on the left side of his face and his status is day-to-day.
Nets PG Kyrie Irving was hit with an inadvertent elbow in a pick up game today, GM Sean Marks says. He’s with Kenny Atkinson getting the injury checked out, so Atkinson won’t be at today’s press conference.

The New York Post has reported the comments of Nets General Manager Sean Marks from before Irving’s diagnosis returned as a fracture:
“Kyrie got hit with an inadvertent elbow during pickup this morning. I wouldn’t want to speculate at all. I think this is just a case of doing due diligence. Kyrie goes and gets checked out like we’d do with anyone else, and we always send staff with them. This is a great opportunity for Kenny to be with him, too.”
Kyrie Irving is no stranger to injuries, including the leg injury that cut short his 2015 Finals series, as well as the injuries to his face and eye he suffered while a member of the Boston Celtics.
However, the significance of Irving’s injury is undoubtedly far less of a concern than that of his new teammate Kevin Durant, who
will most likely need to wait until next season to form the newest superstar duo in Brooklyn following an achilles tear last season.
