The New York Knicks are currently exploring a few options to acquire a first round pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
The Knicks don’t have a lot of options when it comes to the salary cap with Amare Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani opting into their final years of their deals as well as the team trying to do all they can to bring back Carmelo Anthony. With a small amount of cap space the Knicks are trying to look else where to acquire some talent.
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Knicks are looking at options to acquire a first round pick in this years draft.
@ESPNSteinLine: Hearing: Knicks have explored possibility of swapping Iman Shumpert for late first-round pick heading into Thursday’s draft.
@ESPNSteinLine: Links to OKC are inevitable when subject of Shumpert comes up after OKC showed interest in defensive specialist at trade deadline.
@ESPNSteinLine: Knicks are also said be looking at trying to buy a first-rounder if they can.
Acquiring a first round pick in this years draft could be a great move for the team with this draft having scouts comparing it to great drafts of the past years. The 2014 draft is deep at just about every position so acquiring a late 1st rounder could be a move that sets up for a bright future.
The Knicks contracts situation is set up for a huge spending summer in 2015 but Shumpert has a contract that could be a big one come next summer. He has a qualifying offer and that could reach as much as 6-7 million dollars to keep him around.
