Celebrating her 23rd birthday, Kiana Ledé has released her debut album, KIKI. Her debut album features seventeen tracks with production from Roark Bailey, Derrick Milano, Archer, Rice N’ Peas and a few others. Along the way, Lucky Daye, Ari Lennox, Moneybagg Yo, Bia, Col3trane, 6LACK and Arin Ray off features. KIKI is led by the previously released single, “Forfeit” featuring Lucky Daye.
Opening the album, Ledé offers a personal record from the perspective of her friend who continuously has trouble in relationships. During an interview with Billboard, she discussed the inspiration behind the record.
“Literally, all of these songs are so close to my heart, but I would say ‘Cancelled’ is one that means the most to me,” she said.
“‘Cause I wrote it about a friend, and her getting f*cked over by the same dude over and over again,” she added.
Later on, the Phoenix born artist utilizes the classic “Juicy Fruit” sample for “Labels” featuring Moneybagg Yo and Bia.
“I ain’t wastin’ no more time with these labels/I done gave your ass my heart,?and?you played with?it/I hear it look different when?you down on both knees/Gotta get a grip ’cause I?ain’t?your?main squeeze,” she sings.
In addition to Mtume’s “Juicy Fruit” on “Labels” with Bia, her “Mad at Me” also includes a classic sample of Outkast’s “So Fresh, So Clean” produced by Organized Noize.
