Head Coach Mark Adams and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have picked up the commitment of Oral Roberts Golden Eagle’s junior forward Kevin Obanor. This decision comes after he decided to transfer from the Oral Roberts program while he was testing the 2021 NBA Draft process. He ultimately decided to withdraw from the draft and then had to narrow down his list of the interested programs. The final decision ended up being him picking the Texas Tech Red Raiders over the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Texas Tech officially adds Oral Roberts transfer Kevin Obanor as expected. Can’t lie, I was dubious of the hiring of Mark Adams to replace Chris Beard. But he’s done an awesome job of convincing guys to come back + adding talent through the portal. Red Raiders are a tourney team

This is a massive addition to the Red Raider’s program. Kevin Obanor was considered one of the best transfers in the Transfer Portal this offseason. His junior year with Oral Roberts was a big contribution to the program’s magical run in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. During his junior year, he averaged 18.7 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game for the Golden Eagles. He also paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 50.3 percent and a three-point percentage of 46.3 percent.
Texas Tech adds a talented forward in Obanor while he gets to take a massive step up from the Summit League to the Big 12. The hope here for Obanor is this move could potentially help him get a bigger NIL deal this year along with improving his stock for the 2022 NBA Draft or another professional basketball route. Texas Tech has had a rough offseason with losing Chris Beard to the Texas Longhorns. This should make fans feel better about the new era with Mark Adams as the program’s new Head Coach.
