Minnesota Timberwolves 3-time all-star Kevin Love makes news even as everyone sleeps. Love is the most sought after player now that the free agency frenzy is over and the other stars have filled in specific team puzzles. Now Love is having a lot of interest from teams like the Cavaliers, Bulls, Warriors, Celtics, Lakers, a quiet Wizards report and now, The New York Knicks. Chris Herring of the Wall Street Journal first reported.
The Knicks recently attempted to make a trade for Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love, offering forward Amar’e Stoudemire and his enormous expiring contract, second-year guard Tim Hardaway, Jr. and swingman Iman Shumpert, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
Now that trade offer on the surface is horrible for the Wolves. They’re already loaded with guards, will have an immense downgrade from Love with Stoudemire and Shumpert is injury prone as of late. Now looking beyond the surface, this trade could work for the Wolves if they move other pieces around. But the Wolves mindset is to not rebuild but instead get pieces that will work for the team right now.
The other news is that Kevin Love may seem to be at his breaking point. First, he decides to not join the Team USA roster this summer to focus on his current situation. Now, it seems that some reports from Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio, that Love maybe forcing his way out of Minnesota.
Sources could not say for certain whether Love or Schwartz have made a formal trade request to the Timberwolves. Most believe if such a request is made, the Cavs will be able to obtain Love at a considerably cheaper cost than what is being discussed by the teams.
The Cavs and Timberwolves have reportedly talked about a deal that would send Love to Cleveland and team him with fellow All-Stars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Sources have said Cavs rookie Andrew Wiggins has been a sticking point in the talks, as the Cavs are hesitant to surrender the No. 1 overall draft pick.
It is believed the Timberwolves have indicated they won’t trade Love unless they receive Wiggins as part of a package in return. Officials from the Cavs and Timberwolves have refused comment on the talks.
Love now seems to have the ball in his court, literally and figuratively. Now it’s just time to see who will budge first.
