With Black Panther arriving to theatres internationally throughout the weekend, the promotional roll out for this film is REAL. I’ve never seen so much promotion and advertising go into a Marvel film and I’m here for it and excited. After waiting for what seemed like ages to get confirmation of a Black Panther movie, just over 2 years ago it was announced that the Panther superhero would finally be coming to the big screen. One civil war later and we now have Chadwick Boseman, residing over the highly capable and technologically advanced country as King of Wakanda.
There has been a lot of talk surrounding this movie and for a couple reasons. Mainly, because of it’s cultural importance and how it pushes the envelope for diversity of thought in Hollywood and in Film. Any discussion after that is because the movie is simply badass. I haven’t even had the pleasure of watching it yet and I can attest to this. It’s for that reason that President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige wants his choice for director to return to direct the inevitable sequel to Black Panther. In an interview with Variety magazine, Feige spoke highly of the cast of Black Panther as well as it’s director Coogler:
How many more Black Panther films will there be?
We always say we work on one movie at a time. If you have any good ideas, put it in the movie you’re making. If you don’t, you might not be able to make another one. That said, Panther has been around for more than half a century in the comic books and there are many, many stories to tell.Do you think Ryan Coogler will come back to direct a sequel?
I hope so.Do you want him to come back?
Absolutely.
If you haven’t heard of Black Panther or don’t plan on watching the movie, you’re just plain wrong. Stop living under a rock and go get yourself some movie theatre tickets. Black Panther releases February 16th internationally and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyongo, Danai Furira, Daniel Kaluuya and Forest Whitaker.
