The Oklahoma City Thunder lost the MVP of the league and their team, when Kevin Durant discovered he has a Jones fracture in his foot and he will be missing 6-8 weeks on the season. It is a HUGE blow for the Thunder who are still trying to win a championship. Kevin Durant spoke with the media on Tuesday regarding the injury and how he’s moving forward… he even has a cool scooter.
You’re not going to be seeing Durant doing anything else other then riding that scooter for the next couple weeks because he wants his bone to heal. “Nah, I’m not gooing to rush it” Durant Said, when speaking on his return. “That’s one thing I’m not going to do”. You can’t blame him for having that kind of attitude either, the chance re-injury for a jones fracture is extremely low, so the young Durant wants to take his time with this one.
Now his injury brings on questions about the team, who’s going to control things? Is Russell Westbrook fit for the job? Will the Thunder contend in the West now? Kevin Durant is not worried at all. “Stay who you are, you don’t have to change what you do” Durant said, when speaking on his teammate Russell Westbrook who will carry a much larger load on the offensive end now that Durant is out.
In terms of contention in the West, the Thunder still have a good chance at claiming home-court, and its non-sense to think they won’t make the playoffs. The Thunder still have Serge Ibaka and Russell Westbrook, not to mention Reggie Jackson, Anthony Morrow, and Jeremy Lamb to help out. When thinking about Russell Westbrook and how he can man this team, it will be a tough transition but the Thunder have survived with just one star before, with Westbrook’s previous injuries.
Overall, the Thunder will salvage and they are STILL a force to be reckoned with. Let’s hope Russell Westbrook can manage to maintain the Thunder’s championship aspirations while Durant rests his leg.
