Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant surprised a group of Bay Area students Monday by offering to pay for the first year of their college tuition. From ESPN’s Chris Connelly:
Durant had worked with these students as a mentor for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula in Menlo Park, California. In the video, Durant discusses how he grew up in a similarly underprivileged situation, how much he can relate to these soon-to-be college students and how important the Boys & Girls Club was for him, as a child.
In February, Durant pledged $10 million to public schools in his hometown of Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Durant is currently in the midst of the 2018 NBA Finals. The Warriors have a commanding 2-0 series lead, and, through the first two games, Durant has averaged 26 points, nine rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game on 50 percent shooting.
The Warriors will head to Cleveland for Game 3 Wednesday night.
