The forward had two years left in his contract with a player option in the last one, now he’ll be linked with the Nets until the 2025-26 season. According to Bobby Marks from ESPN, this extension was the most Durant could have signed, due to the over 38 rule, if he played out the season and declined his player option so for both parties it made sense to do the deal right away.
With Durant now under contract for the long-term, now the front office focus shifts to the two remaining stars. Both Kyrie Irving and James Harden have two years remaining with a player option in the 2022 free agency.
In the last postseason, the Nets lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Most of the team has re-signed and some new additions have been made to complement Brooklyn’s big three.
