It’s not often that the listed featured artist on a Rap track is a 17-year-old saxophonist, but Kev Choice isn’t trying to be conventional. He’s just being authentic to his voice and his story.
The Oakland native’s latest single, “Prove,” is an anthem highlighting Kev Choice’s faith and explaining how it’s kept him moving forward in moments of trouble throughout his life and career.
“I feel like this is a powerful song reflective of my musical journey,” Kev Choice said about his new single.
The powerful message offered by the trained pianist and uplifting lyricist is backed by live instrumentation, including a solo from the aforementioned 17-year-old saxophonist, Ayo Brame. While not as prevalent as it once was, the use of live instrumentation on a Hip-Hop and Soul-infused track adds a vibrance to the single that helps drive home the message to all listeners.
Kev Choice may not be a household name yet, but many are familiar with his work. Not only does he hold two degrees in performance piano, but he’s also toured with Lauryn Hill, Dwele, Too Short, and many others. Now, it’s time for him to step up as the man with the microphone.
