Once a promising piece of the Denver Nuggets’ future plans, forward Kenneth Faried has seen his NBA value take a major hit over the past few seasons.
Faried had been in and out of Denver’s rotations and was expendable enough to the point where the Nuggets decided to ship him to the Brooklyn Nets in a salary dump trade. However, before even playing a minute for his new team, Faried will reportedly have some legal problems to sort out first. According to TMZ Sports, Faried was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana following a 1:30 AM sobriety checkpoint in New York.
Brooklyn Nets star Kenneth Faried was arrested and charged for possessing more than 2 ounces of weed on Sunday …
The 28-year-old was arrested on the Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton, New York at 1:30 AM … after the vehicle he was riding in was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint.
A rep for the Southampton Town Police Dept. tells us the officer at the scene noticed a “strong odor of marjuana was emanating from the inside of the vehicle.”
Faried was booked for 4th degree unlawful possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. He was transported to a nearby station for processing.
The other 2 people got tickets and were released at the scene.
Cops say Faried got the harsher charge because he was in possession of more than 2 ounces.
If Kenneth Faried winds up being convicted of this charge, the forward could face up to a year of jail-time but it remains to be seen how the situation plays out from here.
Faried has been a steady veteran throughout his NBA career and this will mark his first run-in with the law. Nicknamed ‘The Manimal’ for his hard-nosed and relentless style of play, Faried was expected to provide a sorely needed interior presence for an exciting, young Nets team.
For now, NetsDaily’s Anthony Puccio confirmed the arrest, adding that they seized over two ounces of marijuana from Faried along with some extra cash. Faried was released on $500 bail.
