Before the injury, Edelman had three catches for a total of 52 yards. Edelman was able to hobble off the field to the Patriots sideline. After a few minutes of being looked over, Edelman was carted to the locker room. He is to undergo an MRI Saturday, per Adam Schefter.

Update: Julian Edelman’s MRI is Saturday, not Sunday. Patriots suspect ACL, but tests to determine.

Quarterback Tom Brady was asked about the injury.
“We’ll see what the extent of it is. We’re all hoping for the best. It’s a tough thing to have a teammate go down.”
This injury comes after the Patriots signed Edelman to a contract extension this past offseason. Edelman is no stranger to major injuries. In 2015, he suffered a fractured foot in Week 10 and missed the rest of the season. Edelman also suffered two concussions near the of the 2014-2015 NFL season.
If Edelman has torn his ACL, it will be a big blow to the Patriots offense. Ever since the departure of Wes Welker, Edelman has become the go to receiver for Brady. Yes, the Patriots have other targets for Brady to throw to, but Edelman in the slot position is deadly. Edelman caught 98 passes for a total of 1,106 yards, which is the most he has ever had and his second season with over 1,000 yards receiving.
The Brady-Edelman connection is a defensive nightmare (and also a fantasy owner’s dream). Hopefully, the tests will come back with good news. Regardless if you’re a Patriots fan or not, nobody wants to see anyone suffer an injury like an ACL tear.
